Comments:   “The Colored Man is Eager to Show His Mettle and Do His Bit.” A privately printed poster-like design honoring Henry Johnson and Needham Roberts, African-American Doughboys who were the focus of an extensive communique from General Pershing citing their bravery in hand to hand combat. The image shows both soldiers in a highly detailed tussle with Hun troops, stabbing away at them with knife and bayonnet. Pershing quote at lower left. We have never seen another example of this image. Renesch produced numerous patriotic designs during WWI. Rare!
