"Let it rest on my shoulder now…Compliments of D.W. Griffith whose picture 'The Great Love' reveals officially the war work of Englishwomen." Designed to be posted in movie theaters, likely as an advance. Griffith directed two films of WWI, the other being “Hearts of the World”, also 1918. Both of these films are lost. The plot of ‘The Great Love’ centered around an enthusiastic American boy joining the British Army early in the war, being wounded and nursed to health by the daughter of Australia’s Prime Minister, as played by Lilian Gish. The film also starred more countesses, princesses, and baronesses than you could shake a stick at, all in war work roles. Beautifully printed. Red Cross nurses struggle with huge column in front of heralds of Stars and Stripes and Union Jack. Was 1450.00 |
